Venice
The story behind the poem

I wrote this poem after visiting Venice. I have visited many places and yet Venice was one place I most looked forward to seeing. I was however sadly disappointed.

My intention for the poem, was to state that people say Venice is one of the most romantic cities in the world, yet it is confusing, and misrepresented. This bringing up the question, is the word love much like Venice, unclear and distorted?

The maze of streets in the poem is to portray my confusion with the city and show that even the sun finds it hard to get into Venice.

A gondola is very expensive and so is there a price we pay for love?

I think the idea of Venice not living up to my expectations says a lot about love, life and traveling.
