Show us your medal,
Grandad
The story behind the poem
I was watching a TV program one day that is popular in
the UK. The program is called 'Flog It' and the idea is that members
of the public bring in items they own to be valued by antiques experts
before being sent to auction. On this occasion a young lady brought in
3 war medals that belonged to her grandfather
and were inscribed with his name. They were sold to a stranger for
something like £50.
It takes a lot to make me angry but that did. For God's
sake woman: sell the family silver or even
your hideous couch from Ikea... not your
grandfather's War
medals!!
For all I know he died getting those medals...
but as far as I am concerned it was his granddaughter
who twisted the bayonet into him nearly a century later.
