The story behind the poem
This can be taken apart in several
ways, but generally it is a simple comparison between awaiting a
date that has stood you up, and awaiting a person that has
completely changed, that no longer exists.
The seeds of a relationship may grow into something beautiful with
the help of both parties. At times, however, when individuals change
over the course of a relationship, the bond can wither completely
until two strangers are all that remain.
