A turn of the key
A turn of the key
welcomes the
young couple
across the worn
threshold.
And after a couple
ginger steps -
He will unpack:
Easel, brush,
pen and paper.
And She:
Altar, books, and
rollerblades.
Their new home
will cradle, in quiet
reverence,
their love, their spats,
and friends and
offspring.
When the young couple
leave for work, a walk,
or a Deli Run -
patient the home
will wait with animals
and the tick
of a clock.
In the passing of a year,
its windows
will deliver a
keen view of
December sleet,
May tulips,
and the vivid
lightning of August.
- And when their
sojourn is naught,
as all must come
to an end -
This couple
will fondly
remember
the day they
were welcomed
with
a turn of the key...
