Go to sleep
The story behind the poem
This poem came about after struggling to get my
one-year-old daughter to sleep in her cot. I believe it conveys the
frustration a mother has when trying to teach a lesson at the same
time as being challenged by maternal instinct, and tiredness.
A child is sweet yet can be so much hard work.
The omission of punctuation in the last stanza is deliberate to help
portray the building confusion and frustration that comes with
tiredness.
