Poem and Poet
~ From your works shall you be known ~

Go to sleep

Go to sleep!

I see you staring,
with large chocolate button eyes.
Your eyelashes flick on fat cheeks
like rounds of red liquorice.

Go to sleep!

Eyes close, lashes fall on fat
cheeks and stay there. Stay until
morning. Let me sleep.

Now tears draw,
drip off fat lashes, thick
liquorice, chocolate button
eyes

Go to sleep!

Tiny, chubby fingers
grip cot bars. Cry mama.
Dummy clenched in
naked gums. Tears roll
off fat liquorice cheeks.

Clock face stares,
with tired fingers.
Tick, tick, ticking
loudly into midnight.
Another hour passes.

Go to sleep!

Now nappy sags in white grow and cheeks burn red tears roll roll on liquorice clock fingers chubby time dummy clenched clock stares

Go to sleep!
