Clueless Grandma
I was clueless as to why you were acting so strange
You were always enraged with me
Finally I asked you what the problem was and you replied
'Who are you
people?’
I thought it was some kind of trick or a joke
We laughed it off but you didn’t seem to get the joke
Days go by and it still feels like we’re living with a total stranger
I started noticing the distances between us
You always seemed uncomfortable and confused about everyone and
everything
You would ask the most outrageous questions
We thought you were 'losing it'
If only we'd known you really were losing it
We couldn’t have done anything to cure it but we would have taken the
time to care
The few years you had left - you lived not knowing where or who you
were
Now after three of your death I finally figured out what was wrong
with you
You, Grandma, were suffering from Alzheimer's disease
Even though you’re gone now
I’ll always keep the memories of you and me
Both the good and the bad because those days were the best days of my
life
I knew deep down behind those blank stares that you knew who I was
-
who we all were
You might have forgotten us in your last days but we will never forget
you until the end of time.
