Poem and Poet
~ From your works shall you be known ~

Love of the game
The story behind the poem

I am currently a high school student. I play on the girls' varsity basketball team. Yes, this was a true event. Although we are not one of the best in our zone, this is one of the very few games we actually won. They were our neighborhood rivals and as the poem says they did beat us earlier in the season. Our nerves were going insane that day because the jv played before us, so the fact that we were so excited, confident and impatient was very nerve-racking. As far as the game, we started off ahead. But at some point tied and after that it was neck and neck. The game was tied up until about the last 10-15 seconds when we had made in two free throws and then the excitement and energy of the crowd was overwhelming. The gym had never been so packed; mind you we have a very small gym compared to other schools. So this sonnet just tells a victory story, a dream come true, a goal actually reached.
