The story behind the poem

This poem for me represents an ideal longing. Its power and mystery lie in the fact that the other person - the person to whom the poem is addressed - is imagined to be in the poet's arms and at the same time beyond the open window viewing the same stars. Is this a real person and an imagined situation or are both imagined?
